Not going to lie, I have tried to cultivate a habit to post my thoughts and reflections for so many times in the past few years. However, it has always been short burst of energy and after which, it completely plateaus. I’ll give up after a few posts.
I guess I will try again in the year of 2022. I’ll do my best.
Well since it’s a brand new year, I guess I will have to set some goals for myself in this year.
Jay Double U’s Goal
- Read at least 12 books.
- Reach a weight of 65 – 67kg.
- Complete at least 52 LeetCode problems.
- Complete two side projects for self-improvement.
- Be a better me as compared to the me last year.
Goal #1
For goal #1, I originally wanted to write 25 books, but 25 books seems a little to difficult given how inactive I have been in terms of reading as well. I once read somewhere that for everything, it’s better to set small goals and start slow. We can adjust the goals again once the engine gets going. One book a month will be the goal now.
One reason for wanting to read books is for knowledge. Tap on the experience of those who came before and are here to share their pearls of wisdom. It is also for self improvement. For me to become a better me than the me before I read the book.
Goal #2
For goal #2, my mass has been increasing due to my inactivity ever since WFH began. When I left my previous workplace, my mass was hovering between 70 – 72 kg. However, I am 76 kg now which is quite concerning… I’m 170cm tall which puts my BMI at 26.3. I am at moderate risk for obesity-related diseases. This is far from ideal and I really need to cut it back down. The healthy BMI range spans from 18.5 to 24.9. Well being the average and regular guy I am, I should ideally be somewhere in the middle which is about 21.7. If I were to hit a BMI of 21.7, I’ll need to be about approximately 63kg. But that will be be too big a goal to achieve, so I will attempt to achieve my goal of 65 – 67 kg for the year of 2022.
Goal #3
Well, there are 52 weeks in a year and this is already week 6 of the year. I am behind by 6 problems already. The idea of wanting to practice on LeetCode is to make me a better programmer. Well not necessarily that I want to be a software developer in the future but to challenge my brain to think and to understand the concepts for data structures and algorithms. A problem a week should be achievable and doable.
Goal #4
Apart from my ongoing projects in terms of goal #1, #2 and #3, I also wish to achieve 2 side projects (development) to improve myself as a programmer. Well, at the moment I can’t for sure pen down what I really want to do and what these 2 side projects are. I do have some ideas, maybe you can help me decide and choose which I should tackle. Or if you have any great ideas can let me know as well.
Currently I’m thinking of:
- A form of project management tool (manage JIRA tickets, track timeline for projects, releases etc.)
- Some form of web development in React … But no ideas on what to do at the moment ..
If you have any ideas, can let me know as well. I’m hoping to expand and grow my depth and width in terms of software development.
Goal #5
Hopefully through all the challenges I will face in this year, I’ll come out a tougher and greater person than the 2021 version of me.
I guess that’s the goals I wish to achieve in this year. Hopefully throughout this year, I can bring more things to share on this space. Maybe things with regards to my life, game reviews, my progress on my goals etc.
Till the next post, thanks for reading!
